Truth about Search Engine Optimization.
Professional Search Engine Optimization
By a Proven SEO Specialist...
The saying "Survival of the Fittest" has never been more
appropriate than it is today in Internet Marketing, and with the
pressure of competition increasing daily in every sector of the
World Wide Web, you simply cannot afford anything other than prominent
exposure in all the major search engines in use today.
Every day, millions of Internet users depend on search engines
to locate information, products, and services. With more than 5
billion web pages currently available for public consumption, it's
a proverbial jungle out there and that's where professional search
engine optimization performed by a proven SEO specialist comes in.
The Search Engine Marketing Secret used by virtually anyone positioned
well on a search engines results page is Search Engine Optimization
or SEO. What follows is an SEO Primer...information and an introduction
to some of the most important aspects of Search Engine Optimization
Strategy, a strategy that can give you that much needed edge over
your online competition.
Search Engine Ranking and Optimization Services... Why
You Need Search Engine Optimization.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization Information and Strategy
Content, content, content …
Great content has no substitute and it should be your #1 priority.
It seems so obvious yet most people overlook it. Internet users
know what they are looking for, and if you have it and your page
is skilfully optimized, you have the winning combination.
Search Engines aren't all about search algorithms. In fact Search
Engines work hard at keeping the high quality sites containing the
most useful information displaying high up in their search results.
Valuable content is one of the single most important factors to
consider as part of a successful Search Engine Optimization Strategy.
Keep your content both useful and interesting to the user, and keep
it relevant. Remember… It's all about content!
I'll say it one more time so you never forget it… The quality
of content contained within your web pages can make all the difference
in the world!
Make sure you have lots of text describing what you do and use
keywords in the content, being careful not to simply repeat them
over and over. Most Search Engines rank sites based on keyword density
using a formula that looks at words in your Page TITLE, META Keywords,
META Description, words in paragraph text, words in the ALT
and TITLE Attributes and even Link Anchor Text Title.
Backs links are also extremely important as part of a successful
optimization strategy, and without good content you'll be missing
out on one of the most important sources of naturally occurring
back links... others wanting to link to your pages because you have
good content.
When visitors find and read great content, they tend to link to
it and recommend it to others.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Simplicity
Keep it Simple Stupid…
KISS is another one of those overused clichés that has never
been so appropriate as it is today in the designing and writing
of web pages, and effective SEO Strategy.
Probably the most common mistake made by some webmasters is including
content invisible to the search engines. When it comes to frames,
images, dynamic content, and things like flash… Search Engine
Spiders are about as blind as a bat on a sunny day.
Alternative Text...
Whenever possible, be sure to include alternative text in your graphic
images by incorporating ALT Attributes. Clearly describe the graphic
image using your keywords, and never use alternative text in an
image that has nothing to do with your web page.
For more information on the benefits of using ALT Attributes and
TITLE Attributes refer to our tutorial entitled ALT
and TITLE Attributes for Search Engine Optimization and Ranking.
Frame Pages...
Frame Pages simply cannot be indexed. If your site uses frames,
the search engines can't go anywhere once they get to your site.
When using frames, optimized information pages are the solution
to higher rankings in search results.
Images...
Images can be cool for sure, and content can be displayed in the
most visually pleasing way with the use of images. In fact web pages
that are almost nothing but images are often the most beautiful.
The problem of course is that the search engine spiders don't have
eyes, so they are unable to appreciate the beautifully formatted
text in your images.
Lets face it, "yourimage.jpg" is not spider food and
it doesn't count as content or relevancy either. So, with that said,
when it comes to search engine placement... Don't go image crazy
cause you risk reducing the density of spider food contained within
your page.
Build on a Foundation of Simplicity and Quality Content...
What all this means is that a site built on the foundation of simplicity
and quality content is more visible and more highly ranked by most
and all of The Major Search Engines and Directory Services in use
today!

Search Engine Optimization and Keywords
Keyword Selection…
The best keywords from an SEO marketing point of view are keywords
and keyword phrases that the Internet user is actually searching
for. Spend the time and choose your keywords carefully. It's also
a good idea to analyse your competition to see what keywords they
are using. The most cost effective keywords are the keywords generating
high volumes of carefully targeted traffic that your competition
has overlooked.
Remember… Choose your keywords very
carefully and succeed. Do the research, learn, take your time and
do it right the first time.
That's right, by doing your homework and having experience in
keyword selection, you get the edge over your competition. It's
these more challenging aspects of keyword selection that can generate
the quality, high converting traffic you want, and provide a good
ROI at the same time!
Include your Keywords in your content text...
This is how you communicate to the search engines what your page
is all about. If I want someone looking for information on "Search
Engine Optimization" to be able to access a page, then be sure
the keyword term "Search Engine Optimization" appears
somewhere in the content text. Preferably, it should appear a number
of times. As you can see, this is what I've done for this page.
Although skilled placement of relevant keywords throughout your
page develops a "theme" for the Search Engine Spiders
to sink their teeth into, some search engines will put more emphasis
on content near the top of the page. That's why it is so important
to make sure the content near the top of the page contain intensely
relevant information and includes a scattering of the most important
keywords for the page.
One other point I'd like to make in regards to the top area of
your page. Stay away from scripts, HTML formatting, and images.
They are invisible to the Search Engines and will have the effect
of reducing the density of spider food near the top of your page.
If when designing your website and writing your web pages you make
it easy for the spider's to feed… you won't go wrong.
It's as simple as that. Well, actually it's not really all that
simple. There are many good and bad practices when it comes to what
I refer to as Keyword Management.
That's where knowledge and experience make the difference. Read
the articles, talk to those site owners that get the results you're
looking for, and take the time to educate yourself… or else
find a reputable SEO company like SEO Central, to do it for you.
Here is a great place to start...

Keyword Search - Keyword Research,
Marketing, Ranking and Density
Intelligent keyword management makes sense, yet many people forget
all about it when writing content and designing their pages... then
they wonder why they show up on page eighteen within the search
results.
Write great content and disperse your most relevant keywords for
that particular page prominently throughout the page.

Search Engine Optimization and Keyword Placement
Keyword Placement…
Keyword placement is another important aspect of Keyword Management
and is an effective Search Engine Marketing Strategy. You need to
know and understand how the search engines weigh keyword placement.
For example, they will weigh data in your page title more heavily
than elsewhere on your page.
You should do keyword planning on both the Search Engines and Directories
to determine the best set of keywords and keyword phrases your target
audience is using, and always be sure to look to related searches
for additional keyword ideas.
Be sure your title is short and contains keywords relevant to
your web page. Always make sure your keywords are included in the
title of the page (<title>Your keyword here</title>),
in headlines (<h1>your keyword here</h1>) in bold (<b>keyword
here</b>) and in italic (<i>keyword here</i>)
text, and in your Domain Name and/or URL.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Meta Tags
Use Meta tags …
Although Meta Tags aren't nearly as
important as they used to be, you still should be including them.
Meta-tag description and meta-tag keywords attribute should be used
on every page you want indexed by the search engines. If you have
a page you don't want indexed, use the robots exclusion tag. The
robots.txt exclusion protocol has more support with spiders.
The use of description (<META NAME="description" CONTENT="your
keyword here">) and keywords (<META NAME="keywords"
CONTENT="your keyword here">) Meta tags is a correct
and effective Search Engine Optimization tactic to use and need
to be unique for each page on your site, with each tag describing
the content of that specific page.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Domain Names
Always register your own Domain Name…
An absolute must for anyone serious about Search Engine Optimization.
When sharing a Domain or IP with another site or sites, you always
are at risk of being penalized, banned, or even worse for unethical
Search Engine Marketing practices, like spam, used by the site or
sites sharing your domain or IP.
There are a number of other reasons for Owning Your Own Domain
and IP address such as the convenience of e-mail aliases, credibility,
Search Engine refusal to spider, and ease of directory submission.
You need your own domain name and IP address or the Search Engines
simply don't take you seriously enough to make having a commercial
website worth your while.
Read the article Why is having your
own Domain Name so Important for more information on the topic.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Hosting
Always employ a Quality Web Host …
Even a highly effective Search Engine Optimization and Marketing
Plan won't do much for you if your site's down when the spiders
come crawling. You must have a reliable host that can keep your
site up at all times. Most Search Engine Spiders crawl the Internet
in its entirety ever few weeks on average. If you're site is down
when they do, it won't get indexed and it may even be deleted from
the original Search Engine Index and left out for months.
Be sure as well, to get your own IP and access to server logs.
These log files are invaluable as a Search Engine Marketing Tool.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Link Strategy
Links, links, and more links …
Link Popularity as a Search Engine Marketing Strategy is high on
the list of parameters used by Search Engines in determining ranking.
That makes it extremely important, and if you expect good positioning
in the Search Engine Results Pages, you have to acquire quality
links to your site. In fact I cannot emphasize enough the importance
of links… both, from your page out to other pages into the
realm of hyperspace, and from other pages to yours.
Outgoing Links...
You should consider the links contained in your pages first. The
Search Engines consider your site somewhat 'more real' and it gives
the Search Engine Spiders a place to go. Be sure your links are
meaningful, contain keywords relevant to your page, and that they
take the surfer somewhere that relates to what your page is specifically
about.
Incoming Links...
When considering links from others websites, you need to know that
some Search Engines place a lot of importance on how many other
sites in their index have links to your website. Think about it
this way… if you knew that a company was only linked to by
one website, versus a company that was linked to by a thousand websites,
which one would you consider more important?
When it comes to linking up your site to the world of the Internet,
patience is virtue. It takes time to acquire a large number of links
to your site, but the wait comes with rewards.
Link Strategy...
You may want to consider banner ads as a means of linking to your
site. They're a very popular method of promoting Web sites, and
you can create them yourself quite easily by going to one of the
many free banners creating websites.
Although it's true that "Search Engines assume that sites
with many links to them are important, high quality sites",
the better Search Engines can actually determine the importance
and relevance of those links. So be sure to include high quality
content first, that way the highest ranked, quality websites of
similar or related content will want to be linked to you.
That's how you rank high up in search results. When visitors find
and read great content, they tend to link to it and recommend it
to others.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Submission
Always, always Hand Submit your Site ...
The Internet is inundated with pop up ads and websites marketing
software and offering services that will blast your site out to
thousands, even tens and hundreds of thousands of search engines.
To discuss the reasons is a topic far to vast to explore in depth
here...
So Suffice to say… Don't do it!
Hand submitting your site always was and still is… the best
Search Engine Optimization Strategy there is. Submitting your site
by hand to "The Top Ten Search Engines and Directories"
is what you need to do. It usually takes about a month or two to
be indexed, so don't resubmit your site.
I know, I've read them too, those pesky SEO and marketing tutorials
that tell you to do so. Well I'm telling you not to cause it ain't
gonna help your ranking.
Never, and I mean never try to fool the Search Engines... It's
a trap that is easy to fall into. Things like invisible text, repeated
keywords, and the use of small text in small areas jammed with keywords
may work for a while, but the Search Engines are always on the lookout
and catch on quick. Once they do, routines are written that penalize
sites using such practices.
SEO...
Search Engine Optimization and Maintenance
Last but certainly not least, keep your site updated …
No one enjoys a page that never changes or is consistently out of
date. To be successful online, your data must portray the message
you want to send, and any links on your site have to be checked
every now and again to be sure they are active. Dead links are an
inconvenience for the visitor and can impact your rankings in an
unfavourable way.
Conclusion ...
If you follow the Basic Search Engine Optimization Rules as I've
laid them out above, you're well on your way to the kind of Search
Engine Placement most website owners, and even some SEO professionals,
can only fantasize about. It takes time and it takes effort, and
as with most things in life, when it comes to Internet Marketing…
Your time and your efforts will be rewarded ten fold.
