WebCrawler Overview
The WebCrawler search site is simply the easiest
way to find better search results from more of the Web.
WebCrawler's
meta-search technology highlights the strengths of many
of the Web's major search properties, delivering both,
more relevant and more comprehensive results every time
you search.
WebCrawler History
WebCrawler was "born" on January
27, 1994 and was originally a desktop application. WebCrawler
went live on the Web in April of 1994, (April 20 to be exact)
and handled its one-millionth query in November of the same
year. WebCrawler joined AOL in 1995, and was acquired by
Excite in 1997.
In 2001 WebCrawler joined the InfoSpace team.
Better Search Results made Easier with WebCrawler
The results returned from these search engines
include commercial (sponsored) and non-commercial results.
The current WebCrawler product is designed to identify
the intent of a user's search.
If the search term is determined to be commercial
in-nature (roses), a blended mix of results weighted towards
sponsored results would be displayed. In the case of a non-commercial
term (roses and aphids), the blended mix of results would
be weighted towards research-driven results.
WebCrawler Search allows you to search multiple
leading search engines at once, returning only more comprehensive
and relevant results, fast. WebCrawler searches and returns
result from a collection of search partners:
-
-
Web Directories (dedicated to indexing
Internet Web pages and returning lists of pages which
match particular queries, normally compiled manually,
by user submission, and often involve an editorial selection
and/or categorization process) such as About,
LookSmart and The Open Directory.
-
-
Other Engines or databases that are
meta-searched specifically for images, and news, as
well as WebCrawler
Guaranteed Search Inclusion submissions.
-
Search Better and Search Faster with WebCrawler
WebCrawler is a powerful meta-search engine that searches
multiple leading sites to find the results you're looking
for, fast. With one single click, WebCrawler searches the
best results from the combined pool of the world's leading
search engines -- instead of results from only one single
search engine.
